New to HomePod or just not sure what to do with it? Try these helpful voice commands

I've owned a HomePod since the original $349 speaker arrived at Apple Stores four years ago. However, a lot has changed since 2018, including the death of the smart speaker in favor of the more affordable HomePod mini.

No matter which HomePod you own, it's easy to forget everything it can do because it's primarily controlled by your voice. By regularly checking in to see what your HomePod can do with voice control, you might learn something new.

Ambient Sound

Something I often do is use the HomePod mini in my bedroom to play ambient sounds as I fall asleep at night. The first two choices are my go-to requests, but that's partly because I haven't committed the other choices to memory yet:

• ocean
• rain
• 夜
• Forest
• Fireplace
• Stream
• White Noise

If you've never tried ambient sounds on HomePod, or If you're like me and have only used a few, give these sounds a try to see what you like best when you need to focus or fall asleep.

Speaker Combo

Using voice commands to control where and how playback is also more powerful than what I've been using in years. I've been using the first request, but moving audio is a useful command I'm not sure I know about:

• Play around
• Move this to [another room]
• Play this in [First Room] and [Second Room]
• Add [Additional Room] here or play music from [First Room]
• Stop playing in [first room] and [second room]
• Lower the volume of [another room]

and more

Finally, Siri can understand more supported commands on HomePod. These are some I'm trying to remember right now:

• Stop playing [music, podcasts, etc.] after an hour
• Play other versions (songs recorded for different artists)
• Play [genre] from [decade]
• Message me
• Subscribe to this podcast
• Play this podcast at faster, slower or normal speed
