Apple announced a number of new devices on Monday, including a new iPhone SE with 5G connectivity, an iPad Air with an M1 chip, a Mac Studio and an updated Studio Display. But if the new report is accurate, there are apparently more new Macs on the horizon. MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 coming this year

9to5Mac Reports say that Apple is developing a new MacBook Air equipped with an Apple Silicon M2 chipset, codenamed J413. The M2 chip under development is said to be based on the Apple A15 (already shipping in the iPhone 13 series, 2022 iPhone SE, and 6th generation iPad Mini), with 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores. It's unclear how well the new chip will perform, but it's likely to be on par with the base M1, rather than the higher-powered M1 variants that will be released later.

There is also said to be a new 13-inch MacBook Pro in development, codenamed J493. The laptop will reportedly have a similar design to the existing 13-inch MacBook Pro but be powered by the same M2 chip as the rumored MacBook Air upgrade. However, there are rumors that Apple may ditch the "Pro" branding, which would make the new model a simple "MacBook." Apple's latest MacBook with a name other than Air or Pro is the 2017 12-inch MacBook.

The current-generation 2020 MacBook Air was one of the first Mac computers to be updated with the Apple Silicon chip, along with the M1 Mac Mini, so it definitely needs an upgrade. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 was launched later and has the same basic design as the previous Intel model (complete with Touch Bar). The 14- and 16-inch models updated last year feature updated designs, higher-quality displays, and more connectivity options. We'll have to see if these upgrades drop to 13 inches, but so far, that seems unlikely.
