AirPods Max initially launched in a few colors, including space gray, silver, green, pink, and sky blue. Now, a new report suggests that we can expect an AirPods Max color update as soon as later this year, as well as a new version of AirPods Pro. Head below to learn more.
Apple plans two updates to AirPods this year. First, as we've detailed in the past, there's a new version of AirPods Pro coming soon. AirPods Pro 2 is expected to feature a new design and support lossless playback for the first time. There are also rumors about new health management and fitness tracking features, but we're still waiting for more details to know exactly what health and fitness features Apple may have planned.
We're almost three years removed from the original AirPods Pro release, "so for some early adopters, the battery may have been in trouble." As an early adopter of AirPods Pro, I can confirm this. In addition to AirPods Pro 2, Apple also plans to offer new colors for AirPods Max.
Look for new AirPods Pro in the fall. The current model has been on the market since fall 2019, so the battery may have been a hit for some early adopters. Also look out for new color updates for the AirPods Max (and we hope the price drops — $550 for these earphones is ridiculous).
Ideally, when Apple updates the AirPods Max this fall, it will do more than simply update the color options. Over-ear headphones do not support lossless playback via wireless and wired playback. If AirPods Pro 2 add support for lossless playback this year, this will become an even more glaring omission.
