New Windows 11 build 22000.652 (KB5012643) fixes nearly an hour boot delay bug

Microsoft has released a new optional update for Windows 11 with build 22000.652 under KB5012643. The new update is a non-security, cumulative update, or C build, that fixes a Windows startup delay of nearly an hour. It also brings several other fixes. Here are the highlights of this release:

  • Updated an issue that delayed operating system startup by approximately 40 minutes.
  • Updated the problem of incorrectly aligning video subtitles.
  • Shows the temperature on top of the weather icon on the taskbar.
  • Updated an issue that prevented you from using the minimize, maximize, and close buttons on maximized application windows.

Here is the full changelog:

  • New! Added improvements for servicing the Secure Boot component of Windows.
  • Resolved an issue that caused the AppX Deployment Service (AppXSvc) to stop working after installing certain MSIX applications.
  • Resolved a race condition that occurred early in the startup process that could cause a stop error.
  • The Autopilot client has been improved to handle the updated Trusted Platform Module (TPM) functionality that supports self-deployment and provisioning scenarios.
  • Change the Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) registration timeout from 60 minutes to 90 minutes for Azure AD-joined hybrid Autopilot scenarios. This also resolves a race condition that caused exceptions on timeout.
  • Resolved an issue where some POS terminals would occasionally experience operating system startup delays during reboots of up to 40 minutes.
  • Resolved a memory leak issue affecting Windows systems that are used 24 hours a day, every day of the week.
  • Resolved an issue affecting Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) option 119 (domain search option) by preventing the use of connection-specific DNS suffix search lists.
  • Fixed an issue affecting the Title property in Microsoft Ege IE mode.
  • Resolved an issue where Mobile Device Management (MDM) policies are not allowed on Windows Enterprise editions upgraded to Enterprise edition using Azure AD join subscription entitlements.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause video subtitles to be partially cut off.
  • Fixed an issue with incorrectly aligned video subtitles.
  • Resolved an issue that caused Kerberos authentication to fail with error "0xc0030009 (RPC_NT_NULL_REF_POINTER)". This occurs when a client computer attempts to connect to another computer using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) when Remote Credential Protection is enabled.
  • Resolved an issue that caused Windows to enter BitLocker recovery after a service update.
  • Resolved an issue that prevents retrieval of Endorsement Key (EK) certificates from TPM devices.
  • Resolves an issue where the security portion of Group Policy may not be copied to the computer.
  • Addresses an issue that prevents instantiation of the Microsoft RDP Client Control, version 11 and later, in the Microsoft Internal Foundation Classes (MFC) dialog box.
  • Shows the temperature on top of the weather icon on the taskbar.
  • Resolves an issue that prevents you from using the minimize, maximize, and close buttons on maximized application windows. This issue occurs because Notification Center maintains input focus.
  • Resolves an issue that may occur when using Netdom.exe or the Active Directory Domains and Trusts snap-in to list or modify name suffix routes. These processes may fail. The error message is "Insufficient system resources to complete the requested service." This issue occurs after installing the January 2022 security update on the Primary Domain Controller Emulator (PDCe).
  • Resolved an issue that causes the primary domain controller (PDC) of the root domain to generate warning and error events in the system log. This issue occurs when the PDC incorrectly attempts to scan outgoing trusts only.
  • Resolved an issue when mapping a network drive to a Server Message Block Version 1 (SMBv1) share. After restarting the operating system, you will no longer be able to access the network drive.
  • Resolved an issue that affects SMB multi-channel connections and may generate a 13A or C2 error.
  • Fixed an issue that corrupted the pool when the Client Side Cache (CSC) cleanup method failed to delete a resource that had been created.
  • Resolved an issue that could cause the server to lock up due to the non-paged pool growing and using up all memory. After restarting, the same problem occurs again when you try to repair the damage.
  • Reduce resource contention overhead in high input/output operations per second (IOPS) scenarios with multiple threads contending for a single file.
