Microsoft has launched a new Developer News extension for Visual Studio so developers can keep up with all the latest software releases and developer activity. This feature used to be on the start page of Visual Studio 2017, but newer versions removed it.

To access the News Feed after installing the extension, you should see it docked near Solution Explorer and if you click on that tab you will get the News Feed. If you don't need the news feed, you can go to View and toggle Developer News. You can also use the handy keyboard shortcut: Ctrl Alt N.

#One of the past complaints about this feature was that relevant news wasn’t shown, this updated version fixes that. Just click the gear in the upper right corner and select the topic you're interested in, and that's all you get in the feed. You can now get news on topics like Visual Studio, .NET, Azure, C++, DirectX, IoT, PowerShell, Python, SQL Server, Visual Studio Code, and more.

Another problem with the news feed in older versions of Visual Studio is that it is only available on the start page. Some users skipped the start page and therefore never read the news, however, with the new implementation, this is no longer the case. Early reviews obtained by Microsoft seem to indicate that people are happy with the new extension, with one user calling it "simple, elegant, and unobtrusive."

You can download and install the extension from the Visual Studio Marketplace. In the future, extensions may include native invention and developer community integration. If you have any suggestions for improvements, you can let the developers know on GitHub.
