Reasons and solutions for docker closing and failing to start

Apr 17, 2023 pm 04:40 PM

Docker is currently the most popular containerization technology, which allows developers to package an entire application into a container and run it anywhere. But sometimes, you will encounter some problems when closing and starting Docker. The following will introduce some reasons and solutions that may cause Docker to close and fail to start.

  1. Docker Daemon is not running

Docker Daemon is the core component of the Docker engine. If it is not running, Docker will not work properly. In Linux systems, you can check the running status of Docker Daemon through the following command:

sudo service docker status
Copy after login

If the output shows that Docker is not running, you can use the following command to start it:

sudo service docker start
Copy after login

If it still cannot be started, Please check the log file.

  1. Exceeded Docker Daemon default memory limit

Docker Daemon allocates 2GB of memory by default. If the container you are running requires more memory, it may cause Docker to fail to start. . You can increase the default memory limit of Docker Daemon to 4GB using the following command:

sudo dockerd --default-memory 4G
Copy after login
  1. Insufficient hard disk space

Docker requires sufficient hard disk space to store images, containers, and roll. If you don't have enough hard drive space, it may prevent Docker from starting. You can check the hard disk usage with the following command:

sudo df -h
Copy after login

If your hard disk space is insufficient, please free up some space or add more hard disk space.

  1. Container is not closed correctly

If the container is not closed correctly, Docker may not start. You can use the following command to view all open containers:

sudo docker ps -a --filter "status=exited"
Copy after login

You can stop and delete these containers using the following command:

sudo docker stop [容器ID]
sudo docker rm [容器ID]
Copy after login
  1. Docker configuration file error

If you make changes to Docker's configuration file and a syntax error occurs, Docker may not start. In this case, you can check and test the configuration file using the following command:

sudo docker config --test
Copy after login

If there are errors, check and correct them.

  1. Container or image file is damaged

If your container or image file is damaged, Docker may not be able to start. You can use the following command to view all images and containers:

sudo docker images
sudo docker ps -a
Copy after login

You can use the following command to delete unnecessary containers and images:

sudo docker rm [容器ID]
sudo docker rmi [镜像ID]
Copy after login

If the above method still does not solve the problem, it is recommended to reinstall Docker.

In general, these are some possible reasons and solutions that cause Docker to close and fail to start, for reference only. When using Docker, we need to always pay attention to log files and error messages and solve problems in a timely manner.

Docker Interview Questions: Ace Your DevOps Engineering Interview Docker Interview Questions: Ace Your DevOps Engineering Interview Apr 06, 2025 am 12:01 AM

Docker is a must-have skill for DevOps engineers. 1.Docker is an open source containerized platform that achieves isolation and portability by packaging applications and their dependencies into containers. 2. Docker works with namespaces, control groups and federated file systems. 3. Basic usage includes creating, running and managing containers. 4. Advanced usage includes using DockerCompose to manage multi-container applications. 5. Common errors include container failure, port mapping problems, and data persistence problems. Debugging skills include viewing logs, entering containers, and viewing detailed information. 6. Performance optimization and best practices include image optimization, resource constraints, network optimization and best practices for using Dockerfile.

Docker Volumes: Managing Persistent Data in Containers Docker Volumes: Managing Persistent Data in Containers Apr 04, 2025 am 12:19 AM

DockerVolumes ensures that data remains safe when containers are restarted, deleted, or migrated. 1. Create Volume: dockervolumecreatemydata. 2. Run the container and mount Volume: dockerrun-it-vmydata:/app/dataubuntubash. 3. Advanced usage includes data sharing and backup.

Docker Security Hardening: Protecting Your Containers From Vulnerabilities Docker Security Hardening: Protecting Your Containers From Vulnerabilities Apr 05, 2025 am 12:08 AM

Docker security enhancement methods include: 1. Use the --cap-drop parameter to limit Linux capabilities, 2. Create read-only containers, 3. Set SELinux tags. These strategies protect containers by reducing vulnerability exposure and limiting attacker capabilities.

Advanced Docker Networking: Mastering Bridge, Host & Overlay Networks Advanced Docker Networking: Mastering Bridge, Host & Overlay Networks Apr 03, 2025 am 12:06 AM

Docker provides three main network modes: bridge network, host network and overlay network. 1. The bridge network is suitable for inter-container communication on a single host and is implemented through a virtual bridge. 2. The host network is suitable for scenarios where high-performance networks are required, and the container directly uses the host's network stack. 3. Overlay network is suitable for multi-host DockerSwarm clusters, and cross-host communication is realized through the virtual network layer.
