iOS 16 may finally bring always-on display functionality to future iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. With the iPhone 13 Pro rumored to be arriving alongside the iPhone 13 Pro , it appears Apple's next flagship phone could come with this long-awaited feature. iOS 16 will include always-on display feature before iPhone 14 Pro

I’m told that iOS 16 will support an always-on lock screen in the future, something Apple originally planned for last year’s iPhone 13. This will allow iPhones to significantly reduce frame rates and quickly display browsable information on the lock screen – similar to newer Apple Watches.

“The always-on display mode is exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models (…) if the feature succeeds.”

A report pointed out that thanks to the LTPO display, always-on mode can be achieved.

Apple plans to use LTPO TFT in higher-end iPhone models launched next year. Until now, it has used a low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) TFT process. An oxide TFT process will be added to become LPTO TFT.

LTPO panels allow variable refresh rates. Slowing the refresh rate to a very low level means it uses much less power, which is why there's an always-on display on the Apple Watch Series 5.

On the iPhone 13 Pro, Apple has finally added a 120Hz refresh rate panel, but it varies between 10Hz and 120Hz, unlike the Apple Watch, which can also update the refresh rate every minute.

The always-on display feature will also be a great addition to the iPhone 14 Pro range, once the redesign is expected to use a new punch hole pill cutout to replace the notch.

In addition to the always-on display feature, the rumored iPhone 14 Pro is also expected to feature an A16 Bionic chip and a 48-megapixel rear camera.
