Apple has launched the next version of macOS, codenamed Ventura. The main feature of this upgrade is Stage Manager, which helps you focus on a single task while allowing you to easily switch between other programs. Ventura also brings Continuity Camera, which lets you use your iPhone as a webcam on your Mac, and Handoff support for FaceTime, so you can start a call on your iPhone or iPad and easily switch to your Mac.
#Apple Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi said of macOS Ventura:
“macOS Ventura includes powerful features and new innovations , helps make the Mac experience even better. New tools like Stage Manager make it easier and faster than ever to focus on tasks and move between apps and windows, while Continuity Camera brings new video conferencing capabilities to any Mac, including Desk View, Studio Light, and more. With useful new features in Messages, state-of-the-art search technology in Mail, and an updated design for Spotlight, Ventura has a lot to offer and enriches the many ways customers use their Mac.”
During its keynote, Apple acknowledged that its desktop operating system is often bogged down by clutter of programs, making it difficult to focus on a task. To solve this problem, it introduces Stage Manager, which places all open windows on one side of the screen in a miniaturized state, and you can then keep open the windows you want to focus on. To switch programs, you just click on the preview on the left. Apple also lets you group windows together in Stage Manager, in case you're using multiple programs to complete a task.
A little over a month ago, Apple announced plans to expand support for the passwordless standard developed by the FIDO Alliance. To reduce password use, Safari will update with the passwords on your device, allowing you to securely sign in to websites using Touch ID or Face ID. Always with security in mind, Ventura helps prevent attacks with fast security responses, ensuring your machine remains secure between new updates and reboots.
Apple Developer Program members can now download the macOS Ventura beta starting today, with the public beta going live next month. The final version will be released as a free update in the fall.
