Apr 18, 2023 pm 03:23 PM

As Golang is used more and more widely, many people want to build a Golang development environment on their own computers. And if you are using idea as your code editor, you can follow the steps below to install it.

  1. Installing Golang
First, we need to download the installation package from Golang’s official website and install it on our computer. If you are using a macOS system, you can use Homebrew to install it directly. Enter the following command in the terminal to complete the installation:
brew install go
Copy after login

After the installation is completed, you can use the following command to check whether the installation is successful:

go version
Copy after login

If the current version information is output, it means Successful installation.

  1. Install Golang plug-in
We need to install a Golang plug-in, which allows idea to better support Golang development. Search "Go" in idea's plug-in center and choose to install it. After the installation is complete, you need to restart idea.
  2. Configuring GOPATH
Golang code requires a specific folder structure, so we need to create a specific folder to store our code. This folder is often called GOPATH. Before proceeding to the next step, we need to configure GOPATH first.

Enter the following command in the terminal:

mkdir $HOME/go
Copy after login

Then open the idea's settings and select the "Go" option. Just add GOPATH to "Go Libraries".

  1. Create a new project
Now we can create a new Golang project. Select "File->New->Project" in the idea and select the Golang project. When creating a new project, you need to choose the name and path of the project. It is recommended to choose a clear name and an easy-to-find path.
  2. Run your project
Now that we have completed all the settings, we can start writing code and running your project. In idea, open the program you want to run and click the run button to start running it.

Summary
It is very simple to install Golang and develop in idea. Just follow the above steps to set up, and you can happily develop Golang.
