It makes the iPad what the makers of Astropad Studio call a "fully customizable drawing tablet." Apple Pencil can be used in Astropad Studio to draw, sketch, and write on PC or Mac versions of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or any graphics application.

With Apple Pencil, artists can adjust custom pressure curves and use pressure smoothing to give their work greater range and add a natural feel to using digital tools.

The Apple Pencil or the user's touch can also be used to control apps. In addition to using the application's own menu directly, Astropad Studio also allows users to create an unlimited number of shortcuts to speed up operations.

It also features "Magic Gestures" which provide a quick way to switch between different tools in the app.
