Microsoft has started rolling out its promised native screen recorder for Windows 11. An updated screenshot tool with screen recording functionality is now available for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel.
Windows 11 has many tools and shortcuts to take screenshots without third-party tools. However, for some reason, Microsoft's operating system has long lacked a native screen recorder. Luckily, the company is now ready to fix this problem by allowing users to record their screen using the Snipping Tool app.
To record your screen in Windows 11 without resorting to third-party software, launch the Snipping Tool and switch to recording mode. Select the area you want to record and click Start. Windows will let you preview the recording before saving it or sharing it with others.
Microsoft warns that the updated Snipping Tool (version 11.2211.35.0) has some limitations. For example, you may notice a slight delay between clicking the Start button and starting recording. There is also a known issue where the Snipping Tool application window does not restore when launching a new screenshot from within the application.
You can download the Snipping Tool app from the Microsoft Store.
