#If you haven’t used ChatGPT writing yet, you will soon be able to experience it through the Microsoft Teams Premium Microsoft 365 plug-in.
Teams Premium is now available to regular users. Microsoft revealed that the new artificial intelligence features of Teams Premium (such as intelligent review of meeting content) are provided by OpenAI's GPT-3.5 series of large-scale language models. OpenAI's popular chatbot ChatGPT is based on these large-scale language models. The artificial intelligence capabilities of Teams Premium are available to developers through Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI service API.
Microsoft said in an announcement, “Teams Premium brings the latest technology, including large-scale language models powered by OpenAI’s GPT-3.5, to make meetings smarter, more personalized, and better. Protect your location, whether it’s one-on-one, a large meeting, a virtual appointment, or a webinar."
Microsoft is now offering a discounted first-time price of $7 per month for Teams Premium subscriptions. The first-time discounted price applies to the entire term of the initial subscription (except for some subscriptions that are paid monthly and some three-year subscriptions that are paid annually). As has been the case since the preview was released last October, the offer ends on June 30, 2023, when it will revert to the standard price of $10 per user per month.
Microsoft 365 and Office 365 subscriptions (such as E3 and E5) are required to subscribe to Teams Premium. Microsoft recently surveyed 4,500 employees and found that they have a strong need to use artificial intelligence tools to complete tedious tasks. Therefore, enterprises may purchase the subscription because of the demand of Teams users.
Microsoft said that some professionals who subscribe to Teams Premium will not need to purchase third-party add-on products that enhance the intelligence of webinars, virtual appointments and meetings.
Until now, Intelligent Retelling has been the headline description of the AI feature in the premium version of Teams, but Microsoft is now detailing more capabilities demonstrated in the ChatGPT online public experiment, from answering complex questions to writing articles and solving coding questions and generate questions that university professors can use.
Teams Premium’s AI-generated chapters divide PowerPoint live meeting recordings into sections. Teams' own intelligent retelling does this work based on meeting records.
Another AI feature is a personalized timeline, so it can help people catch up on missed meetings based on markers of when they joined or left. The personalized timeline also ends up marking when the user's name was mentioned, when the screen was shared, who spoke in the meeting, and when the user spoke in the meeting.
GPT-3.5 also derives the artificial intelligence-generated notes of Teams Premium, which can create key points and summaries captured during the meeting. The basic idea is that users can therefore focus on participating in meetings rather than taking notes.
As Microsoft has said before, the Smart Review feature can.
Microsoft’s $10 billion investment in OpenAI will go a long way in strengthening the message that workers want to use artificial intelligence in a variety of products, including Microsoft 365/Office 365, Azure and Copilot, GitHub's Codex-powered pair programming tool. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said last month that Microsoft will "embed AI at every layer of the stack" in productivity and consumer services.
According to reports, Microsoft is testing the use of ChatGPT to answer some Bing questions, with the goal of challenging Google in search. Google's answer to ChatGPT is also reportedly being tested internally for Google Search.
More AI features in Teams Premium will be available in mid-February, including real-time translation, brand meetings, organizational context, organizational peer mode scenarios, and IT administrator meeting templates. Other features include advanced meeting protection, content watermarking to stop leaks, and restrictions on who can record.
Teams Virtual Appointments, which has been in preview since its launch last October, enables external attendees to join a branded virtual lobby room via messaging.
Microsoft reported this month that it had seen "strong interest" in Teams Premium. With cloud revenue growth (including Azure and Office 365) slowing and Windows OEM revenue declining, Microsoft is looking to subscriptions like Teams Premium to boost revenue. Slowing growth in the number of Teams users also contributed to this shift.
Teams now has 280 million monthly active users, up from 270 million monthly active users reported in January 2022. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Teams' user base more than tripled between 2020 and 2021, growing from 44 million daily active users in March 2020 to 145 million daily active users in April 2021 .
