It seems that Microsoft is moving towards EdgeNew tab pageIntroducing a new "Image or video of the day" option so that users can view Bing's video of the day on the new tab background when selecting this option. The video will loop endlessly unless you click on the pause option.
The start page or new tab page is an important feature of your web browser. Browsers these days are configured to display a new tab every time they are launched.
Any web browser, be it Chrome or Firefox or Micorsoft Edge or Vivaldi, will display a set of links for quick navigation to frequently visited sites, populate the NTP with news headlines and allow customization of the background.
Micorsoft Edge comes with tons of options to customize its new tab page. In addition to news, Edge displays a new Spotlight lock screen image every day.
Edge allows custom images to be set as NTP backgrounds via manual upload. It also allows you to apply custom themes to new tabs.
The latest stable version of Microsoft Edge has added a new option in the new tab page layout settings in the customization menu to display an image on the new tab page every day or video.
When the user selects this option, Edge may display the day's videos and provide the option to pause the video.
When you pause a video, the video will continue playing instead of being in pause mode the next time you start it.
Requirements: The Windows operating system needs to adjust the animation or animation effect for Edge to automatically play videos on the new tab page. On Windows 11, go to Settings>Accessibility>Visual Effects and make sure the Animation Effects setting is enabled.
Since this is an option and not enabled by default, users don't have to worry about Edge consuming resources. But the feature certainly raises concerns about impacting system performance or memory and CPU.
Done, reload the new tab page, and wait for Edge to display new videos on the new tab page every day. This option is available in all channels including Edge 97 stable, but it worked for us in beta.
