Windows 11 Build 25115 introduces a new feature and a host of general improvements.

Today, Microsoft released a series of new previews for Windows 11, including new previews from active development branches. Windows 11 Build 25115 is rolling out to testers in the Dev Channel now, and is essentially one of the early builds of the 23H2 build (the update will go live later next year).

For those unfamiliar with the Windows development cycle, we have reached the point where Windows 11 version 22H2 is complete and will likely reach RTM status by the end of the month. Now that this year's feature updates are almost complete, Microsoft has begun testing the 23H2 version of Sun Valley 3, releasing an initial build to testers.

In today's preview, Microsoft is introducing a new feature called "Suggested Actions," which was originally teased earlier this year.

So what exactly is the recommended action? As the name suggests, this is a new feature that tries to guess what you're going to do next based on the text you select. For example, if you highlight a date in Microsoft Teams, you'll most likely be able to paste it into another app or create an event in your calendar.

With recommended actions, Microsoft will reduce the number of steps required to perform an action after copying or selecting text. In the above scenario, when you highlight a date, a prompt will appear in the app suggesting that you create an event in your calendar for the selected date.

Likewise, if you highlight a phone number, as shown in the screenshot above, you will see an option to call the number or use Microsoft Edge on Bing Search for it. At the moment, there isn't much going on, but we hear that the tech giant plans to use its machine learning capabilities to better understand user behavior and provide relevant recommendations.

This feature could really speed up what we do manually on Windows of some tasks, but it depends on its implementation.

Windows 11 Build 25115 Improvements and Fixes

As we highlighted in previous reports, the 2023 update for Windows 11 is in the early stages of development, with most features expected to arrive later roll out.

In addition to recommended actions, Windows 11 Build 25115 only includes improvements and bug fixes.

For example, Microsoft said it has updated the icons in Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) to better match the look and feel of Windows 11. The underlying speech platform is being updated to better support Voice Access, a speech detection feature that allows working on Windows using your voice.

Fixed a bug that caused the system tray icon to get stuck in Settings > Personalization > Taskbar when opening this page recently. This issue is also caused by File Explorer (explorer.exe). Another bug has been fixed where users would receive error 0x800703E6 if they copied files from Google Drive.

Microsoft says it has also made changes to improve the performance of File Explorer, especially the Home page. A bug that caused Explorer to crash when you held down CTRL ALT DEL has been fixed.

Other fixes in Windows 11 Build 25115:

• Fixed an issue that would cause explorer.exe to crash.
• Fixed an issue that could lock explorer.exe under certain circumstances.
• Fixed an issue with access keys in Task Manager, including the inability for users to directly press ALT without releasing the ALT key.
• Fixed an issue causing 100% CPU usage on Windows.
• Fixed an issue that could cause Smart App Control to block properly signed apps.
• Fixed an issue where the memory integrity feature was incorrectly turned off.
• Fixed an issue where applications using Easy Anti-Cheat would crash the PC due to a Blue Screen of Death error.
• Fixed an issue where some applications closed before running live subtitles.

How to install Windows 11 Build 25115

To install Windows 11 Build 25115, please follow these steps:

1. RegisterWindows Insider Program.
2. Open the Settings page.
3. Switch to Development Channel.
4. Click "Check for Updates" and select "Download and Install".
5. Click "Restart now".

Please remember that after upgrading to Build 25115, users cannot downgrade to Windows 11 version 22H2. That's because Build 25115 is essentially a new version of Windows 11 that will eventually become version 23H2.

As Microsoft fully stabilizes the update, those who choose to stay in the Beta channel will have final testing of the 22H2 build of Windows 11. New versions will be released, mostly bug fixes.

If you continue to use the Dev Channel, you will get builds of Windows 11 version 23H2 and access new features coming next year.
