Windows 11 KB5022303 is now available for download on PCs running version 22H2, and it comes with a small set of bug fixes. That's because Microsoft has paused optional updates due to the holidays in the West. Alongside the Windows update, Microsoft has also released a direct download link for the Windows 11 KB5022303 offline installer.

KB5022303 is primarily a security update and does not contain new features or major notable changes. However, it's worth noting that all Patch Tuesday updates contain changes from previous previews and optional updates. If you skipped last month's update, you'll get these fixes today.

Microsoft also confirmed that the January 2023 update fixes an issue that causes the 0xc000021a Blue Screen of Death error. The issue broke some devices, with users reporting that they couldn't even boot to the desktop.

If you check for updates, you will see the following update on your screen:

Windows 11 KB5022303 (Build 22622.1105) Important Change Log

In a Feedback Hub post, one of the affected users documented the Windows 11 issue.

According to the post, the Windows 11 update installed successfully, but after the first reboot, a Blue Screen of Death error occurred. A second reboot invited another BSOD, and automatic repair did not resolve the issue.

"DISM Recovery Pending Operations Invalid. Eventually, we were able to boot by disabling driver signature enforcement from the Recovery Environment boot options. Booted to the desktop and received a message that System Restore completed successfully (also received an EarTrumpet Unable to boot message). Every time I reboot the machine, the blue screen of death appears again,” one of the users noted.

Thankfully, Microsoft has finally fixed the Blue Screen of Death with the latest Windows 11 update.

Windows 11 Build 22621.1105 or 22622.1105 also fixes an issue affecting a feature called Local Session Manager (LSM). A bug in the operating system allows users without administrator privileges to perform actions that require special privileges available only to administrators.

Fixed another bug where applications were unable to connect to the database if they used the Microsoft Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) SQL Server driver (sqlsrv32.dll). According to the company, the error resulted in a connection error. Some users are also receiving error messages in the app.

If you skipped the December patch, you'll get some additional improvements, including Storage Alerts for OneDrive on the System page of the Settings app. An alert only appears when OneDrive is approaching your storage limit, and links are highlighted below the alert to help you manage your storage and purchase additional storage.

You can also view your total storage space on the Account page of the Settings app. Likewise, Microsoft fixed issues that caused File Explorer performance issues, including a bug where File Manager stopped responding to users.

Known issues in Windows 11 version 22622.1105

Microsoft is aware of at least two known issues in the update. One of these bugs affects provisioning packages on Windows 11. According to the release notes, the provisioned package may not work as expected, but it's not something that home users typically use, so this issue isn't a major concern.

Provisioning packages are .PPKG files typically used in schools or companies, which were broken in the latest update. Microsoft says that if you use a configuration package to perform a Windows installation, the out-of-box experience may not be complete and Windows will be partially configured.

Microsoft officials added that "devices used by consumers at home or in small offices" are not affected in most cases.

The second error causes large file transfers to take longer than expected. This can happen when users try to copy large multi-gigabyte (GB) files, and is even more pronounced when you try to copy files from a network share via Server Message Block (SMB). However, local file replication is also affected.

There is a workaround for this problem, but it requires advanced steps that many users are unfamiliar with. To resolve this issue, Microsoft recommends using a replication tool without a cache manager.
