What new features does build 22572 bring?

  • Fixed an issue that prevented Narrator from correctly reading the Run dialog in scan mode.
  • Narrator in scan mode will now correctly read error messages in the error list in Visual Studio.
  • Narrator will now read out errors when setting a PIN in device settings (OOBE).
  • The pitch range of Narrator's natural voice has been adjusted to provide more levels of control.
  • Resolved a potential issue that caused the pitch to remain unchanged when adjusting the Narrator speed to the 0 to 5 and 15 to 20 ranges in Narrator settings.

[Task Manager]

  • Improved content visibility when contrast mode is enabled.
  • Fixed the issue where critical system processes were unexpectedly displayed as background processes.
  • Fixed an issue that caused random lines in the process list to be unexpectedly written in black text when using dark mode.
  • Right-clicking on the Task Manager icon in the system tray should now actually display a context menu instead of a blank box.
  • Pressing Esc should no longer accidentally close the Task Manager.
Some of the fixes mentioned here in Insider Preview builds from the active development branch may make their way into servicing updates for released versions of Windows 11 that will become generally available on October 5, 2021.

Known issues

[General]

  • Users running Windows 10 try to upgrade directly in the Dev Channel Up to build 22563 or later, you may encounter installation failure with error code 0x8007007f. To bypass, join the Beta channel, install the offered Windows 11 build there, and then switch to the Dev channel to receive current Dev channel updates. This issue is understood and will be fixed in an upcoming release.

【Tablet Optimized Taskbar】

  • After launching an app or clicking outside the extended taskbar on a 2-in-1 device , the taskbar does not always collapse automatically.
  • Some areas of the operating system do not yet track the height of the expanded taskbar on 2-in-1 devices, so you may see overlapping components, such as widgets that overlap the taskbar.

[File Manager]

  • Opening the suggested results that appear when you enter a search term in File Explorer's search box may not help effect.
  • We're working on fixing issues with icon size, visual bugs, and text clipping in flyouts showing OneDrive storage.

[Widget]

  • Sometimes, when pinning from the feed, the pinned widget is placed on top instead of the other pinned widgets underneath the component. If this happens, this will automatically correct within 30 minutes, moving the recently pinned widget to the expected default location. Alternatively, you can log out of the widget board and log back in immediately to resolve the issue.
  • After rearranging widgets in the widget board, some users are experiencing incorrect rendering of widgets in the fixed section. If this happens, logging out of the widget board and logging back in immediately should resolve the issue.

[Important]

  • The Clock app has not yet updated the Windows focus state when configuring a focus session within the app. This will be addressed in a future app update.

[Narration]

  • The narrator’s natural voice sounds garbled, making it impossible to read the text accurately. This happens when doing quick navigation, typing, or changes in pitch. As a workaround, you can switch back to older voices such as Microsoft David, Mark, or Zira.

[Live subtitles]

  • Some full-screen apps (such as video players) prevent live subtitles from displaying.
  • Certain applications that are located near the top of the screen and are closed before running live captions will relaunch behind the live caption window located at the top. Use the system menu (ALT Spacebar) while the application has focus to move the application's window further down.
  • When live subtitles are at the top, the very top of a maximized application (e.g., title bar window management buttons) cannot be reached by touch.

[Task Manager]

  • When Task Manager is configured for dark mode, some tooltips do not accurately display preferred visual settings.

Dev channel releases are now called NI_RELEASE or Nickel branches in preparation for major feature updates to Windows 11 later this year.
