Windows 11's latest taskbar feature is Your Phone app integration

Windows 11 will receive its first major update in the fall, and there's some evidence that drag-and-drop functionality is in the works. In addition to drag-and-drop support, other major improvements are coming, including features like a better overlay menu that many have requested.

Microsoft also appears to be working on a new taskbar toggle that will allow users to quickly view recently opened apps on their phone directly from Windows 11. The feature was quietly teased during Samsung's unboxing event, and we discovered more details.

The Your Phone app’s new Recent Apps feature builds on the existing Apps feature, allowing users to open their Android apps on Windows. Thanks to new features and taskbar integration in the Your Phone app, you can now easily access your three most recently used apps.

As you can see in the screenshot above, your phone app’s icon will appear on the right side of the taskbar, next to options like WiFi or Audio . Currently, Your Phone's taskbar switch can only manage the three most recent apps, but Microsoft will improve the integration in a future release.

This feature is gradually rolling out to the Windows Insider community on select Samsung devices

To try out the new features of the Your Phone app, just click the ^ on the taskbar in the lower right corner. In the pop-up window, you can launch the application or access recently used applications directly from the desktop.

You can also manage your recently used apps through the Recent section, which currently displays three recently used apps.

This feature will also start rolling out to Windows 10 PCs in the coming weeks.

Additional requirements include:

• Samsung device running Android 9.0 or higher with Link to Windows.
• Both devices should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network
• Your mobile app v1.21092.145.0 or higher. Recent apps are not supported on older versions of Your Phone app.
• Links to Windows version 1.21083.49.0 or later.

The recent apps feature is currently only available on some Samsung phones. It’s also worth pointing out that Your Phone app integration will be enabled through the Microsoft Store.
