The first Mac Studio units are already available, and as always, the first teardowns are starting to be released online. Most notably so far, YouTuber Max Tech has torn down a Mac Studio to reveal the internals, the M1 Ultra, and potential upgradeability hints. This teardown reveals how to get into Mac Studio. From the outside, the Mac Studio doesn't appear to have any screws, but if you carefully remove the rubber ring from the base of the machine, you'll find four screws that allow you to completely remove the base.
After removing the base of the Mac Studio and taking a look inside, Max Tech immediately realized that the Mac Studio might come with upgradeable SSD storage. Similar to the Mac Pro, the Mac Studio has two relatively easy-to-access SSD ports inside.
Max Tech notes that Mac Studio language on Apple's website states that the storage is "not user accessible" and that if customers think they may need additional storage in the future, they should "consider configuring to a higher capacity."
However, due to the "user accessible" language, Max Tech speculates that Apple may offer authorized SSD storage upgrades at some point in the future. Apple also sells SSD upgrade kits for the Mac Pro.
This video also shows how to move an SSD module from one slot to another. This again shows that the slot can be modular and upgradeable. Unfortunately, there's zero chance you'll be able to upgrade the Mac Studio's unified memory, since it's soldered to the chip itself.
