How to upload image in docker

May 13, 2023 pm 03:03 PM

Docker is a lightweight virtual container technology that allows applications to run in an independent environment without being affected by factors such as the host operating system and hardware. Due to the convenience and flexibility of Docker, more and more applications are deployed and run using Docker containerization.

After using Docker containers, we also need to upload our own images to a public or private Docker image repository to facilitate the use or maintenance of other people or teams. Next, we will explain in detail how to upload images in Docker.

  1. Register a Docker account

To upload a Docker image, you first need to have a Docker account. If you do not have an account, you need to register an account on the Docker official website and log in locally. Enter the command docker login to complete the account login.

  1. Build Docker image

Before uploading the Docker image, you need to build your own Docker image, which can be built through the Dockerfile file. The following is an example of a Dockerfile:

FROM ubuntu:latest
MAINTAINER Docker_user <docker_user@163.com>
RUN apt-get update
RUN apt-get install -y nginx
EXPOSE 80
CMD ["/usr/sbin/nginx", "-g", "daemon off;"]
Copy after login

The Dockerfile is based on the Ubuntu image, installs the Nginx web service, and runs it on port 80.

After the build is completed, use the docker build -t user_name/repository_name:tag command to name and tag it.

Where user_name is your user name on Docker Hub, repository_name is the name of your Docker image warehouse, and tag is your image version number or other legal tags.

  1. Upload the Docker image

After completing the construction and labeling of the Docker image, you can upload the image to the Docker Registry warehouse.

The command to upload the image is as follows:

docker push user_name/repository_name:tag
Copy after login

Among them, user_name is your Docker Hub user name, repository_name is the name of your Docker image warehouse, tag is your image version number or other legal Label.

After the upload is completed, you can view the newly uploaded image in the repository_name of Docker Hub.

  1. Using Docker images in projects

Using Docker images in other projects is very simple. You only need to use the FROM command in the Dockerfile file to introduce the image, as follows Display:

FROM user_name/repository_name:tag
Copy after login

Here user_name is the user name in Docker Hub, repository_name is the warehouse name, and tag is the image tag.

5. Conclusion

The use of Docker greatly simplifies the deployment and maintenance of applications, allowing developers to focus more on application development and testing. With the above steps, you can easily upload your own Docker image so that everyone can use it for development and testing. Have fun using Docker!
