As expected, early benchmarks show the iPad Air 5 scoring the same as the 11-inch iPad Pro since both devices use the M1 processor.

Geekbench’s benchmarks for the iPad Air 5 aren’t surprising. In fact, the numbers only differ due to rounding errors and variations from run to run.

The iPad Air 5 is listed as "iPad13,17" on Geekbench, showing a single-core score of 1711 and a multi-core score of 7233 in a CPU test. Similar to the 11-inch iPad Pro, its single-core score is 1718 and multi-core score is 7313.

In the iPad Air 5 test, the Metal score was 21,539, which determines the performance of the GPU. The 11-inch iPad Pro showed 21,498.

These scores are obtained by running a series of benchmark tests in the iOS app, which is how Geekbench works. Scores may be affected by battery charge level, external temperature, and other factors. This explains the different numbers between tests and devices running the same chipset.

Although the M1 processor was originally designed for the Mac, it is now also used in the iPad Pro online, rather than what Apple usually uses for " X" series chips. Apple's inclusion of the M1 in the iPad Air is a bit confusing, since it aligns the performance of this mid-range tablet with its "pro" tablet line.

While the processor is important, the iPad Pro maintains its uniqueness in more ways than just that. Their devices can come with up to 2TB of storage, 16GB of RAM, and ProMotion displays. The iPad Air is limited to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz.
