Before we start, we need to ensure that we have MySQL administrator rights and root user access rights. We also need to back up and confirm that the deleted database data is not recoverable.

The following are the steps to delete the MySQL database:

Step 1: Connect to the MySQL database server

In order to connect to the MySQL server, we need to use the MySQL executable command file and root user’s login credentials. Type the following command in the terminal:

mysql -u root -p
Copy after login

This will start the MySQL server and log in as the root user. Enter the root user password to complete the login.

Step 2: List existing databases

Once we successfully log in to the MySQL server, at the MySQL command line prompt, we can list all existing databases with the following command:

SHOW DATABASES;
Copy after login

When we press the Enter key, the system will display all existing databases on the command line.

Step 3: Select the database to be deleted

To delete the database, we need to use the DROP DATABASE command, but before executing, we need to determine the name of the database to be deleted. Select the database to be deleted through the following command:

USE database_name;
Copy after login

In this command, replace "database_name" with the name of the database that actually needs to be deleted. When executing the DROP DATABASE command, the selected database becomes active.

Step 4: Delete the database

Once the database to be deleted is selected, we can delete it using the following command:

DROP DATABASE database_name;
Copy after login

The specified database and all its contents will be Removed from the server once this command is executed. Please note that deletion is irreversible, so be sure to make a backup before performing DROP DATABASE.

Step 5: Exit MySQL

After deleting the required database, we can exit the MySQL server. At the MySQL command line, enter the following command:

EXIT;
Copy after login

Once completed, we will be taken back to the terminal prompt.
