iOS 17 promises significant improvements to iPhone's autocorrect feature

Apple previewed iOS 17 for iPhone today, and one of the key new features the update brings is improved autocorrect.

Apple says iOS 17 includes a state-of-the-art word prediction language model that will significantly improve iPhone autocorrect. Every time you type, on-device machine learning intelligently corrects errors with greater accuracy than ever before. Additionally, you will now receive inline predictive text suggestions as you type, allowing you to add words or complete sentences by hitting the space bar.

AutoCorrect has an updated design on iOS 17 that briefly emphasizes the words being autocorrected. Clicking on an underlined word displays the original word you typed, making it easy to quickly revert changes. The system will also learn your typing habits over time and avoid some corrections, which Apple software engineering chief Craig Federighi said is for "those times where you just want to type a dodgy word" "Moment" designed.

iOS 17 is available in beta to members of the Apple Developer Program starting today and will be available to the public later this year. AutoCorrect can be enabled or disabled in the Settings app under General → Keyboard → AutoCorrect.
