On June 16-18, 2023, IOF joined hands with the School of Dentistry of the University of Hong Kong to launch the “Advances in Clinical Orthodontics: Steering With the theme of "into the future", we will jointly organize the 2023 IOF International Orthodontics Summit Forum.

This conference brings together experts from well-known universities in Asia, North America, Europe, South America and other places. 33 orthodontic experts gathered in Hong Kong, China, to share their research results and vision.

Director of International Strategy and Visiting Professor of the Forsyth Institute, Department of Growth and Development (Department of Orthodontics and Orthodontics, UCLA School of Dentistry) Dr. Kang, founding chairman of Pediatric Dentistry and former Academic Council Professor, former joint professor of UCLA School of Medicine and School of Engineering Ting will deliver a keynote speech "From clinical discovery to experimental research, from experimental research to clinical application-NASA "Overview of the RR5 Program". From discoveries in the clinical treatment of patients with craniomaxillofacial malformations, to experimental research on the International Space Station, to clinical applications, this research has been carried out for 23 years. Dr. While studying a rare form of craniosynostosis, Ting discovered that the NELL-1 protein stimulates bone growth. Although the expression of NELL-1 protein induces the occurrence of craniosynostosis, Dr. Ting's team realized that the NELL-1 protein might be beneficial to patients with bone damage or bone loss—a group that includes the elderly, people who have had traumatic bone injuries, and people with osteoporosis caused by microgravity. Dr. Ting's team's project was selected as the earliest research project to return live rodents to space, and was funded by UCLA, the Forsyth Institute, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Center for the Advancement of Space Science (CASIS), and the National Jointly conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The study tested 40 rodents under microgravity conditions to assess NELL-1 protein expression. Dr. Ting led 20 orthodontic researchers to participate in this exciting research project.
