With the continuous development of cloud computing technology, more and more enterprises are beginning to deploy their applications to the cloud to improve application scalability and performance. AWS Lambda and API Gateway, as two core services on the AWS cloud computing platform, have been accepted and used by more and more developers. In this article, we will explain how to build a simple PHP API using AWS Lambda and API Gateway.

  1. Create Lambda Function

First, we need to create a function in AWS Lambda to handle our request. In the AWS Lambda console, select Create function, then select Create new function by "Author from scratch", enter the function name and select the runtime, here we select PHP 7.3.

In "Function code" you can enter your custom code. Here we will simply output the text "Hello World" and return the json format object as the response of the Lambda function.

<?php
function handler($event) {
     return [
         "statusCode" => 200,
         "body" => json_encode(["message" => "Hello World"]),
         "headers" => [
             "Content-Type" => "application/json"
         ]
     ];
}
Copy after login
  1. Configure API Gateway

Next, we need to create an API in AWS API Gateway to expose the Lambda function as a REST API. In the API Gateway console, select "Create API" and select the "REST API" option.

Then, select "New API" and enter the API name and description. Once completed, you will see the API Gateway’s home screen.

  1. Create resources and methods

In your API, you need to create resources and methods to handle requests. Resources represent the path structure of your API, while methods represent how your API responds to HTTP requests. We will create a resource called "Hello" and add a GET method to handle the request.

  1. Configuring Lambda as a backend

Next, we need to add the Lambda function as a backend to API Gateway to handle requests. Under the "Hello" resource and GET method, select the "Integration Request" tab.

Select "Lambda Function" as the backend type and select the Lambda function created previously. Then click "Save".

  1. Deploying API

Finally, before deploying your API, you need to create a deployment stage for your API that is made available to your developers. In the API Gateway console, select the Deployment API tab and enter your deployment stage name.

Next, select the "Action" option and select Deployment, select the stage to be deployed and click "Deploy". Once deployed, you will see the URL of your API.

  1. Testing the API

Now you can test whether your API is successful. Open a browser or use tools such as Postman, enter the URL of the API, and you will see the "Hello World" message returned by your API.

These are the steps on how to build a simple PHP API using AWS Lambda and API Gateway. Of course, we've only begun to cover this broad topic, and if you want to learn more about AWS Lambda and API Gateway, we recommend that you gain more knowledge about these two services by attending AWS training courses and documentation.

JWT is an open standard based on JSON, used to securely transmit information between parties, mainly for identity authentication and information exchange. 1. JWT consists of three parts: Header, Payload and Signature. 2. The working principle of JWT includes three steps: generating JWT, verifying JWT and parsing Payload. 3. When using JWT for authentication in PHP, JWT can be generated and verified, and user role and permission information can be included in advanced usage. 4. Common errors include signature verification failure, token expiration, and payload oversized. Debugging skills include using debugging tools and logging. 5. Performance optimization and best practices include using appropriate signature algorithms, setting validity periods reasonably,
