The battle for AI chips is intensifying.

On July 11, Intel (33.98, 0.68, 2.04%) launched the AI chip Habana Gaudi 2 for the Chinese market. Gaudi 2 directly benchmarks the 100 series of Nvidia GPUs in an attempt to compete for the throne of the AI computing power market.

As we all know, GPU resources are currently in short supply. Nvidia’s 100 series is banned in China, and the demand for computing power is still soaring amid the Hundred-Mode War. For the Chinese market, there is an urgent need for AI chips to "quench their thirst." For Intel, it is now a window period when computing power is in short supply, and it is also an excellent time to attack.

Intel emphasized that the Gaudi 2 chip they developed specifically for training large language models uses a 7-nanometer process and has 24 tensor processor cores. Last year Intel released Gaudi 2 overseas, and now it is launching a specially customized version for China.

The outside world is particularly concerned about the continued supply of AI chips in the Chinese market despite the implementation of export restrictions by various countries. In this regard, Sandra Rivera, executive vice president of Intel Corporation and general manager of the Data Center and Artificial Intelligence Division, gave a positive answer in an interview with a reporter from the 21st Century Business Herald.

Sandra Rivera said: "This card is also a customized version of the product in China. There is no problem with exporting or supporting Chinese customers. Intel will definitely continue to support our customers in China legally and compliantly, whether it is Gaudi 2 or Gaudi 3 in the future, we must make some customized products in China in a legal and compliant manner to meet the needs of Chinese customers.”

At the same time, the performance of the chip has not been compromised. She said: "In terms of network speed, compared with the international version, (the Chinese version) has changed from 24 network ports to 21 network ports, but the overall performance is still basically the same. of."

With the rapid development of large models, Intel has continued to optimize around Gaudi2 in recent months.
