Baidu Apollo Intelligent Driving Team announced today that after review by the Map Technology Review Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Baidu Maps Advanced Assisted Driving Map has successfully passed the review and approval, becoming the first map provider to obtain national advanced assisted driving map recognition
According to official disclosures, Baidu advanced assisted driving maps have been approved in 134 cities in 30 provinces, achieving full coverage of first-tier, new first-tier, and second-tier cities nationwide. The coverage rate in third-tier cities exceeds 85%. Regarding the controversy over whether the autonomous driving industry needs high-precision maps, Baidu also expressed its own views. Baidu said that at the current stage, high-precision maps still play an indispensable and important role in the application and promotion of intelligent driving. Baidu compares high-precision maps to essential tools for mountain climbing, just like trekking poles and oxygen bottles. Without these equipment, it will be unsafe.
It is understood that Baidu’s city pilot assisted driving function has been launched in Guangzhou and Chongqing are online. This function can more accurately identify various targets such as traffic signs, lane lines, traffic lights, etc., and guide users in real time to perform intelligent emergency avoidance and move into the best lane in advance. In addition, it also provides lane-level warning services to improve driving safety
