Bigscreen Beyond VR headset: the world's lightest and smallest, shipping now, weighing only 127 grams
IT House reported on September 14 that Bigscreen Beyond, the world’s lightest and smallest VR headset, has begun shipping to pre-order customers in the United States. Designed for long-term PC VR experiences, this headset is extremely lightweight and compact, and can be customized based on the user’s 3D facial scan
Weighing just 127 grams, the Bigscreen Beyond is 143mm long and 52mm thick, allowing it to fit in the palm of your hand. Using the same pancake lenses as the Meta Quest Pro, behind them are a pair of MicroOLED displays with a total resolution of 5,120 x 2,560 per eye and a refresh rate of up to 90Hz.
The price of Bigscreen Beyond is US$1,000 (IT Home Note: approximately 7,280 yuan) or US$32 per month (approximately 233 yuan), but does not include the location tracking base station and handle. This headset uses the SteamVR tracking system, so users need at least one base station, preferably more than two, and they need to prepare their own input devices, such as Valve Index handle
The biggest highlight of Beyond is that it is customizable. When users order the device, the system will ask to submit a 3D facial scan so that the headset can be customized according to the user's head shape and IPD (pupillary distance), which ensures the best possible outcome. The fit is optimal, but the IPD cannot be adjusted after the fact, so it cannot be shared with others unless their eyes are exactly the same as yours.
Bigscreen Beyond is also now accepting orders from 13 new countries, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. These countries are in addition to those already supported, including the United States, the United Kingdom, "most of Europe," Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
In early June, Bigscreen announced last-minute improvements to the lens that expanded the FOV, increased center angle resolution, improved sharpness and sweet spot, and reduced visual artifacts such as blur.
Bigscreen says it will ship tens of thousands of headsets in the coming months, with international shipments starting in the fourth quarter of this year. Additionally, the audio band accessory remains on track to launch in Q4, with more details to be announced later this month.
