Taiwan team researches 3K x 3K +100° FOV light field display design to improve VR VAC problem

A team composed of Zhongqiang Optoelectronics and Innolux proposed an improved light field VR display. It uses a 1411 PPI, 3.1-inch resolution ultra-high pixel density LCD display. By utilizing a 3K3K resolution display panel, this improved display expands the field of view (100 degrees) and provides a more immersive experience. Importantly, the researchers said it reduced visual vergence accommodation conflict.

According to reports, the research emphasizes the importance of using high-resolution liquid crystal displays to solve the problem of light field resolution, and improving LCD resolution, including aperture and contrast, through specialized pixel design and driving technology. Not only that, the prototype can be used for vision correction.

Researchers say that using light field technology can simultaneously correct vision and expand the field of view, thereby improving the overall virtual reality experience and enhancing user comfort

They studied the optical components of light field virtual reality and demonstrated the creation of elemental images through lens arrays and spatially multiplexed light field optics EI arrays. This method can generate volumetric 3D virtual images that accurately simulate appropriate eye accommodation, thereby reducing visual vergence accommodation conflicts.

In addition, the researchers highlighted the impressive resolution and pixel density of the LCD display developed by Innolux.
