In this cooperation, Honeycomb Energy will provide Stellantis with PACK battery packs using standard VDA cells. Stellantis is also cooperating with Samsung SDI in the process of advancing its electrification strategy. Samsung SDI plans to jointly build the second electric vehicle battery factory in the United States with Stellantis, with an investment of up to 2.7 trillion won, of which Samsung SDI will hold 51% of the shares. Although the location of the second plant has not yet been determined, it is expected to be built near the first plant in Kokomo, Indiana. The factory is scheduled to start construction in April 2024 and mass production will begin in November 2027. After the second factory was put into operation, StarPlus Energy, the joint venture between the two parties, will have a total battery production capacity of 67GWh in the United States, capable of powering more than 1 million electric vehicles.

Stellantis announced last week that it would lay off 700 employees at two Indiana plants, while it temporarily laid off 1,340 employees in three states due to a four-week strike.
