New affordable Apple Pencil is coming, with low latency and tilt sensitivity support as highlights
Apple Pencil is the gold standard for precision and low latency. However, the Apple Pencil has not reached mainstream customers due to its high price. The Apple Pencil 2nd Gen costs $129 and is inaccessible to most customers. Today, Apple announced a new Apple Pencil that's more affordable and has the key features you've come to expect from an Apple Pencil.
The new Apple Pencil is priced at just $79 ($69 for education customers), and it will feature the same pixel-perfect precision, low latency, and tilt sensitivity as the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen. Compared to its more expensive sibling, the new Apple Pencil will lack pressure sensitivity, wireless pairing and charging, and double-click to change functionality. The new Apple Pencil even supports hover when paired with the new iPad Pro, allowing users to sketch with greater precision.
A sliding cover on the back of the new Apple Pencil reveals a USB-C port for pairing and charging. When magnetically attached to iPad for storage, the new Apple Pencil goes to sleep to extend battery life.
The new Apple Pencil will be available in November this year, and it will be compatible with the following models:
- The new Apple Pencil is compatible with all iPad models equipped with a USB-C port, including iPad (10th generation), iPad Air (4th and 5th generation), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th generation) and iPad mini (6th generation).
