The ability to realize autonomous cruising and automatic return of drones in areas without communication signals benefits from the in-depth application of cutting-edge Beidou technology in the power inspection profession.

In the drone intelligent inspection vehicle, nine drones are parked quietly in the cabin. On the workbench, there is also an LED display with a strong sense of technology. According to Yang Jiani, the developer of the inspection vehicle, all automatic drone inspection operations are carried out through this workbench. During operation, the screen can display data such as the precise position of the released drone and the remaining operating time in real time. At the same time, the workbench will also receive image data captured during drone operations in real time, and inspection personnel can identify equipment defects by viewing the image data anytime and anywhere.

In 2021, the first drone intelligent inspection vehicle developed by State Grid Hunan Electric Power began to be put into use. The vehicle successfully applied the Beidou navigation system to the actual work of electric power production, solving the problems of being unable to fly autonomously in signal-free areas and being unable to transmit front-end data back to the backend. The inspection vehicle is equipped with multiple positioning methods such as GPS, Beidou, RTK and image recognition, ensuring uninterrupted communications all day and in all regions. The project has passed the test of China Electric Power Research Institute, and has applied for 6 patents (of which 4 are utility model patents, 1 is an invention patent, and 1 is a utility model patent), 2 software copyrights and published 4 papers. The inspection vehicle has been used on-site on transmission lines in Tianjin, Changsha, Hengyang, Loudi, Zhangjiajie and other places, including refined inspection of the 500 kV Yanchuan I line, ±800 kV Fufeng line and Jin On-site operations for different levels of lines include inspection of dense-channel transmission lines on the Su Line and multi-machine coordinated inspection on the 1,000 kV Xiaojiang Line. This operating mode has achieved good results, and the efficiency of inspection work has increased by 3 to 6 times

Once the product came out, it was widely praised by the industry. Cheng Siqi, deputy general manager of Hunan Power Grid Construction Co., Ltd., said that in just over 10 months in 2023, the product was sold to 14 cities in Hunan Province, Chongqing, Eastern Mongolia and Tianjin, bringing an output value of 32.44 million yuan. .
