


Microsoft releases self-developed AI chip: run large models for personal use first

According to The Paper, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella delivered a speech at the Microsoft Ignite Global Technology Conference and launched Microsoft Design Azure Cobalt 100, the first central processing unit (CPU), and Azure Maia 100, the first AI chip dedicated to cloud training and inference. These two chips will be given priority to support Microsoft's own cloud services
According to reports, the Cobalt 100 is based on the Arm architecture and has 128 cores. It is known as the "fastest CPU among all cloud computing vendors." It has been applied in some of Microsoft's businesses and will be available next year. Maia 100 uses a 5-nanometer process and has a transistor count of 105 billion
Nadella said that Maia 100 is designed to run large language models and help AI systems process large amounts of data faster. It will first provide support for Microsoft's own AI applications and then open it to partners and customers.
