iOS 17.2 adds Qi2 wireless charging support for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14

Apple is expected to launch the iOS 17.2 update next week, bringing support for the next-generation Qi2 wireless charging standard to iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models.

After adding Qi2 standard support, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 will be able to use Qi2 wireless chargers. Qi2 is the next generation of Qi wireless charging technology incorporating magnetic power configurations. Similar to MagSafe-enabled accessories, Qi2 devices will use magnets to align, allowing for faster charging. Apple has added Qi2 support to iPhone 15 models ahead of launch, so they are already compatible with the standard.

Magnetic Power Profile is designed based on Apple’s MagSafe contribution and will be combined with the new Extended Power Profile (EPP) to form what is called “Qi2”. Qi2 is designed to ensure that phones and other rechargeable mobile products are perfectly aligned with their chargers, resulting in greater energy efficiency and faster charging. It will allow for new accessories that cannot be wirelessly charged with current flat-to-flat devices.

While Qi2 chargers can support charging up to 15W, it's unclear whether Apple's iPhones will support faster wireless charging using Qi2 accessories. For example, even though iPhone 15 models support Qi2, they still only support "up to 7.5W" Qi wireless charging, according to Apple's technical specifications page.
