After Canonical gave up on entering the smartphone market, the Ubuntu Touch mobile system struggled to move forward with the push of the community. The UBports team released Ubuntu Touch OTA-1 Focal today, officially jumping to the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) release.

Ubuntu Touch has previously been developed based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus), and the last update based on this distribution version, Ubuntu Touch OTA-25, was released on March 24.

The new version will fork Unity 8 into Lomiri, switch the initialization system from Upstart to systemd, migrate the development code from GitHub to GitLab platform, migrate from Anbox to Waydroid, and adjust a large number of components based on GCC 12 and Qt 5.15.
