According to Blizzard’s official announcement, Johanna Faries sent an open letter to all Blizzard employees today:

Dear Blizzard,

Although February 5th is the first day that I officially join you, I want to tell you right away that it is an honor to join you in a new capacity next week. It is with a humble heart and awe of all that Blizzard has represented and brought to the world for over thirty years. Today also brought some mixed emotions. The loss of talented colleagues in recent days is difficult to reconcile with my immense excitement to join Blizzard and build on the momentum you have created for Blizzard’s next chapter.

I'd like to thank Matt for his introduction, provide some further clarification on today's announcement, and share more about how I see our future at Blizzard. I know this is a lot to consider. News of my appointment will undoubtedly trigger a range of reactions, questions and even concerns.

Activision, Blizzard and King are very different companies with different games, cultures and communities. It's important to note that the way Call of Duty serves its players early on is often different from the amazing games in Blizzard's realm: each has a different gameplay experience, surrounding community, and necessary formula for success. I have discussed this with Blizzard's leadership team, and I will enter this role with a sensitivity to these dynamics and a deep respect for Blizzard to begin exploring how to push our universe to greater heights.

I am committed to doing everything I can to help Blizzard thrive, both with care and consideration for you and for our games, because each game is unique and special in its own way. I'm optimistic about our ability to serve our current and future player communities and further enhance the shared passion for greatness, leanness, and creative mastery that are the hallmarks of the games Blizzard makes.

Next week, I will be in Irvine and I can't wait to connect with as many of you as possible. I'll be setting up an informal (completely voluntary) meet-and-greet where I hope to hear more input from across the company. For those who are unable to attend these gatherings or are not in Irvine, please feel free to email me. We also plan to hold a general meeting in the near future.

Something about me personally: My number one priority in life is raising two wonderful boys. In addition to being a parent, I find time each week for my daily yoga and prayer routine, and of course, playing games (I'm a huge Diablo 4 fan!). Through it all, my enjoyment of games and working with the people who make them has only deepened.

I remain inspired by Blizzard’s iconic legacy and the transformative role games have played in my life and the lives of others. I can’t wait to get started – listening, learning, empowering, and working with all of you to build our bright and vibrant future. Let us create a legendary road to the future together.
