Events
The New Year celebration is a day worth celebrating for the people of Azeroth. At the beginning of each year, elders from all generations pass on their wisdom and share it with others around the world. If you meet these noble spirits on your travels and take the time to listen to their words, they may even offer you a gift as a token of their gratitude - ancestral coins, the embodiment of past lessons. With enough Ancestral Coins, players can purchase celebratory attire, fireworks, trinkets, and recipes from the Cenarion Circle shop!
The Cenarion Circle has legitimate reasons to celebrate. On the New Year's Day, many ancestral spirits who died in the battle will return to the world, including: Goldrinn, Maloni, Aviana, and Cenarius. But this celebration is overshadowed by the eternal torment of one of their kind - Nian, an ancient wolf god blessed by the moon god Elune, who has risen from the lake in Moonglade. Although Nian Beast was once as noble and proud as other ancient spirits, he was driven mad by the foul magic of the Burning Legion during the War of the Ancestors. Nian's immortality means he is eternally cursed and must experience madness again at the beginning of each new year - and this year, his power has grown. Heroes above level 20 must put an end to the tortured beast spirit's pain as soon as possible, hoping that he will return with a clearer will next year.
Celebration Leader: The Nian Beast is back!
The Giant Wolf Nian Beast was once the hero of this world. A symbol of strength and good luck, Nian fought alongside the heroes of the Ancestral War until he succumbed to the power of demonic magic. The Nian Beast betrayed its allies and wreaked havoc across Azeroth, spreading death and fear wherever it went. The Nian Beast was finally defeated in Moonglade and now sleeps in the chasm of Luna Lake. But whenever there is a New Year's celebration, he will wake up again...
