Question content

Some background

I have been working on golang for almost 2 years, just yesterday I got a mac, I am new to this operating system, I have only used golang, ubuntu and arch on linux before, the process is very simple , according to most posts, this is what it looks like on a mac.

question

rn I noticed that when trying to run commands for my work project I get permission errors, I tried using chmod to provide elevated access but nothing seems to work, I have updated the path variables, uninstalled golang , install other versions, even use brew, but the same error always occurs,

go mod tidy
example.com/m: open /Users/andrewalizaga/Library/Caches/go-build/78/78eb7bcc7e29eb28c3e9df7a741641913f745d9b271d51e223c70e81e0e11def-d: permission denied
Copy after login

This is what I always get, seems to be related to caching and files being locked, this comes up when I try to run a brand new project, so it doesn't seem to be related to anything related to my work. Thanks for any help, thanks in advance

Solution

Okay, now I get it...kinda

I just managed to fix it by manually asking my admin to use some extra access rights to specific folders, the error was popping up in the library folder and cache folder, so using the following command

sudo chown -R $username /Users/$username/Library
Copy after login

I was able to get past this error and it works just like in linux, the part that bugs me is still not knowing why this is needed in the first place, my user is admin, it's a fresh install, all the documentation I read There's no mention of needing to provide this information to your users manually, I guess macos also has a difference between root and admin, but I still don't understand why this would affect my case
