Several types of html box models

There are two HTML box models, namely the standard box model (Content Box Model) and the IE box model (Border Box Model).

The standard box model is stipulated by the W3C standard. In the standard box model, the width and height of the element only include the content area (content), excluding the border (border) and padding (padding). The total width or height of an element is equal to the width or height of the content area, the width or height of the border, and the width or height of the padding.

The IE box model is a box model proposed by the early Internet Explorer browser. Different from the standard box model, in the IE box model, the width and height of the element include the content area, border and padding. The total width or height of an element is equal to the width or height of the content area (including borders and padding).

Below, I will give specific code examples for the standard box model and the IE box model respectively.

First is the code example of the standard box model:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<style>
.box {
  width: 200px;
  height: 100px;
  border: 1px solid black;
  padding: 10px;
  margin: 20px;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>

<div class="box">
  <p>This is the content of the box.</p>
</div>

</body>
</html>
Copy after login

In the above example, we use a <div> element to create a box. By setting CSS styles, we specify the width, height, borders, padding, and margins of the box. In the standard box model, the total width of the element = the width of the content area, the width of the border, the width of the padding = 200px 2px 20px = 222px; the total height = the height of the content area, the height of the border, the height of the padding = 100px 2px 20px = 122px.

The following is a code example of the IE box model:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<style>
.box {
  box-sizing: border-box;
  width: 200px;
  height: 100px;
  border: 1px solid black;
  padding: 10px;
  margin: 20px;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>

<div class="box">
  <p>This is the content of the box.</p>
</div>

</body>
</html>
Copy after login

In the IE box model, we can use IE by setting box-sizing: border-box; box model. In the IE box model, the total width of the element = the width of the content area = 200px; the total height = the height of the content area = 100px.

Through the above code examples, we can clearly see the difference between the standard box model and the IE box model. In actual development, we need to choose which box model to use based on different needs and browser compatibility.
