Intel spins off independent FPGA company Altera: sorting out and upgrading Agilex product line, chasing US$55 billion opportunity

• Agilex 9 has begun mass production and is used in radar and military aviation applications. The most ideal choice as it offers the industry's fastest data converters and high-bandwidth mixed-signal FPGAs.

• Agilex 7 F-series and I-series chips have begun mass production. Both families offer twice the fabric performance per watt compared to other comparable FPGAs, making them ideal for high-bandwidth computing applications such as data centers, networking and defense.

• Agilex 5 has been widely used in the market. As the only FPGA fabric with integrated AI, it excels in performance, delivering 1.6x the performance per watt of similar products. This product is mainly targeted at embedded and edge applications, providing users with efficient solutions.

• Coming soon: Agilex 3. It will bring a value-leading line of low-power FPGAs for low-complexity functions in cloud, communications and intelligent edge applications.

Altera was founded in 1983 and was acquired by Intel in 2015 for $50 million, transforming it into the new Programmable Solutions Group (PSG) division.

Intel announced in October last year that it would spin off the PSG unit and now that it is back on its own, it holds a majority stake in the company and is seeking to take the company public within three years.
