News on March 3, according to media reports, after the European Union passed the Digital Market Act, forcing Apple to open third-party iOS stores, relevant Russian regulatory authorities are also considering following up on this measure.

Russian local media said that the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation plans to submit a bill to the State Duma during the spring session, requiring Apple to allow the launch of the Russian App Store in the iOS system.

The department submitted a similar bill as early as the end of 2022. The State Duma was originally scheduled to begin considering the proposal of this bill in the first quarter of 2023, but it was subsequently shelved.

At present, officials from the Russian Ministry of Digital Development have decided to submit this resolution again and are finalizing the documents for submission of the bill.

The deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma Information Policy Committee said that this decision is related to the emergence of the iOS version of Russia’s local application market RuStore, and as far as he knows, Russia has reached a preliminary agreement with Apple.

However, it is also worried that the bill may subject the Russian App Store to more sanctions, thereby causing greater trouble for Russian Apple users.

According to media reports, the official version of iOS 17.4 will be launched on a large scale next week. The biggest highlight is that it allows EU users to download and pay for apps in third-party app stores. This is also the first time Apple has targeted open apps since the birth of the App Store in 2008. Make concessions on third-party download issues.
