4月15日，开源数据库厂商MySQL在新东家Sun的引领下召开了第六届用户大会，并向公众发布了其最受欢迎的企业产品MySQL 5.1的准正式候选版本。
这个免费的企业数据库，在过去的几个月里每天的下载量都在六万到七万之间，现在更是获得了GNU宽通用公共许可证。其最新的终极版本有望在几个星期之内正式问世。
虽然现在MySQL已经归Sun所有，不过其创始人兼首席执行官Marten Mickos还是保留了原来的行政职位。他在用户大会开幕式的主题演讲中称，在过去的三个月里，MySQL从一个小的发散型公司(拥有400个SOHO式的员工)转变为一个超级IT企业的管理相对集中的一个系统，整个转变过程进行得超乎想象的顺利。基本上，Sun的收购是给LAMP(Linux+Apache+Mysql+PHP)Stack平台投入了十亿美元的资金，这样的事情放在六七年前可是想都不敢想。
Mickos表示，这两家公司有两个关键的共性推动了两家公司的联袂顺利进行：企业文化和企业理念。
据Mickos称，MySQL和Sun具有相似的企业文化，允许员工在家办公，如果他们想在家办公的话，员工可以自己把握自己的工作时间，而且是不需要集中式的工作时间。企业理念同样如此，Sun提出了“网络就是计算机”的理念，而MySQL则早就以成为网络世界最棒的数据库为企业目标。也许这两家公司现在都还处在甜蜜无间的蜜月期吧。
MySQL拥有多达一千二百万的安装用户群和一亿六千多万主机名，而这个数字还拥有增长的潜力。MySQL 5.1与2005年的v5.0版相比，可靠性和使用便利性都得到了改善。Mickos告诉大家，v5.1版本修复了一千三百多个漏洞(2007年的997个，以及目前为止2008年的386个)，而且在标准的DBT2基准测试中，v5.1在性能上比之前的版本提高了10%到15%。Mickos对此信心十足，认为MySQL 5.1比其问题多多而且让人很不满意的前辈来说，已经得到相当大的改善，至少目前这个版本还没有发现任何漏洞。

Mickos称，MySQL技术革新速度将会越来越快，因为约有一百名来自Sun的资深数据库工程师将会加入到MySQL的开发团队中。
MySQL对规模的渴望一如既往，而现在也成为了全球发展最快的数据库之一。不过，Mickos表示，就像法拉利的制造商一样，不管你的产品现在有多牛，你的客户永远都希望获得更强大的马力。
另外，据消息透漏，MySQL数据库的“软件即服务”版本也正在紧锣密鼓的开发中。除了知道这是一个数据库，而整个开发项目相当庞大之外，MySQL的高管们都不愿透漏更多关于这个即将问世产品的信息，也无法给出确切的时间表。目前IT技术产业正在向“软件即服务”的架构迈进，MySQL当然也会“随机而动”了。bitsCN.com
