The move is part of the foundation's efforts to be more transparent about how its biometric data is collected.

Worldcoin 基金会将 ORB 软件开源

In an effort to increase transparency in the biometric data collection process, the Worldcoin Foundation has decided to open source the core software components of its ORB technology. This initiative not only makes important progress in verifying human identity online, but also enhances privacy and security.

The release, now available on GitHub under the MIT/Apache 2.0 license, supports the Foundation’s continued efforts to improve the transparency of the digital verification process, while including previously disclosed hardware and iris recognition technology.

This is part of the foundation's efforts to be more transparent about its biometric data collection process after multiple countries raised concerns about the practice.

Although the overall cryptocurrency market has been lower recently, Worldcoin (WLD) reacted positively to the news and recorded gains for the day.

As of press time, WLD was trading at $8.26, up 4% in 24 hours. According to data, the market value was $1.28 billion.

Comprehensive computing stack

ORB’s role is to verify a user’s identity by analyzing images of their eyes and face to distinguish real human users from automated systems or artificial intelligence.

The latest open source release focuses on the software responsible for capturing images and securely transmitting them to the World App, aiming for high performance and security when handling sensitive biometric data.

Initial developer of Worldcoin Tools for Humanity (TFH) built a comprehensive compute stack for ORB around the NVIDIA Jetson platform, enabling real-time processing of camera data for fast World ID verification.

The setup uses a Rust application and NVIDIA's TensorRT engine, designed for high performance and security when processing sensitive biometric data.

The release of the code provides insight into Orb's capabilities, including image capture, biometric processing, and secure encryption and transmission of user data. By exposing these components, the Worldcoin Foundation aims to demonstrate the strength and reliability of the underlying technology in matters of privacy and security.

ORB Audit Accounting

Trail of Bits has completed a security audit of ORB technology after global regulators raised concerns about its biometric data collection practices.

The audit found 12 vulnerabilities, including one critical issue, but confirmed that the technology complied with privacy standards when handling personally identifiable information. Worldcoin has addressed the critical issues following the audit and implemented further improvements as recommended.

The foundation plans to continue to increase the transparency of the software and reduce reliance on proprietary components. This initial release includes key elements such as orb-core, orb-attest, and orb-firmware.

Future efforts may involve further opening up the development process and improving Orb’s security and privacy framework, potentially becoming a model for similar technology initiatives.
