TrendForce: Micron's DRAM production capacity is affected by the Hualien earthquake in Taiwan, and memory manufacturers have stopped quoting prices
Apr 07, 2024 pm 05:16 PMAccording to a research report by TrendForce, the 7.3-magnitude earthquake in the waters of Hualien County, Taiwan may have an impact on Micron's DRAM memory production capacity in Taiwan. It is said that this area is the suspension quotation area for many upstream memory original manufacturers and downstream module manufacturers. Additionally, the extent and duration of the effects are currently unclear.
The research report stated that Micron has deployed a large amount of production capacity in Taiwan, with factories in Linkou, New Taipei and Taichung, which can produce the most advanced 1-beta memory. According to previous reports on this site, Micron’s future 1-gamma process memory will also be mass-produced in Taiwan first.

Micron issued an announcement on the 4th, indicating that all employees in Taiwan are in a safe state and are working properly. Assess the impact of the earthquake on operations and supply chains, and will notify customers of changes to delivery commitments after the assessment is completed.
According to TrendForce’s investigation, Micron’s Linkou plant was greatly affected by the earthquake and the machine was shut down. It will still take several days to fully resume operations.
In addition, Taiwan DRAM memory manufacturerNanya Technology's Fab3A factory in New Taipei City has also been affected.
The research report pointed out that Micron took the lead in stopping DRAM quotation after the earthquake, and plans to restart memory contract price negotiations this quarter after the loss assessment is completed.
Though the three major DRAM memory manufacturers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have lost their DRAM production capacity, they have also stopped quoting at the same time and plan to wait and see the market trends. In addition, memory module manufacturers in Taiwan such as ADATA also followed up and stopped quoting after hearing the news.
Overall, the current DRAM memory market has sufficient spot stocks and weak spot demand. Therefore, prices will rise slightly in the short term, but the continuity of the price increases remains to be seen.
The above is the detailed content of TrendForce: Micron's DRAM production capacity is affected by the Hualien earthquake in Taiwan, and memory manufacturers have stopped quoting prices. For more information, please follow other related articles on the PHP Chinese website!
