Western Digital launches 368TB 'removable hard drive' weighing 13-15 kg
According to news from this site on April 13, Western Digital recently launched the Ultrastar Transporter storage solution, which is specially designed for transmitting data. It has a built-in 368TB solid-state drive and weighs 13-15 kilograms.
Western Digital says the Transporter can meet the requirements of film crews and others on set to store all their data when network connections are too slow or transmission costs are too high.
The Ultrastar Transporter, while "portable," is not "portable," the device requires 1,300 watts at peak consumption and is so bulky that it takes two heights of equipment to mount on a 19-inch rack.
The official data is slightly different in terms of weight. In the data sheet, it weighs close to 15 kilograms ( Approximately 33 pounds); while the product description and announcement state the weight is approximately 13 kilograms (just under 29 pounds). And that 2kg difference is probably the weight of the external case.
Ultrastar Transporter connects to the network via two QSFP112 ports at 200GbE to provide or collect data in the field. Additionally, the device embeds a 10 Gigabit Ethernet interface via RJ45 connection.
