作者:令狐达【eNet硅谷动力消息】为了吸引商业用户,开源数据库厂商MySQL准备在7到10天内推出全新升级的MySQL 5.0版。新版数据库将让用户感觉它越来越像SQL Server等企业数据库产品了。
据MySQL公司产品总监罗宾·舒马赫(Robin Schumacher)日前表示,5.0版已经在最后的查错和完善过程中,公司将依据开源GPL协议在网上提供免费的“社区版”。舒马赫同时说,购买了商业许可的企业客户将将在新版问世两个月后可以把MySQL 5.0升级到其服务器上。
据悉,MySQL5.0已经开发了两年半。媒体分析说,这是MySQL将开源软件向商业用户销售的重要一步。过去,作为低端数据库的代表,MySQL在网站开发中颇受欢迎。而在5.0版本中,MySQL增加了只有在企业数据库巨头——甲骨文、IBM、微软和Sybase的产品中才可一睹的功能。
MySQl 5.0将允许开发人员编写存储过程,以及分布式的业务处理。它将支持触发器、视图等功能。新版中包括的其它功能还有数据迁移工具,可帮助用户更容易得从Oracle、SQL Server和其他数据库导入数据。此次升级还将提供一个名为“档案引擎”的工具用于存取历史数据。
据悉,MySQL并非唯一一个向商业用户扩张的开源数据库,但显然是最受到欢迎的。据Evans数据公司最近所作的调查发现,在开源数据库的市场份额上,44%的开发人员在使用MySQL,28%的用户使用Firebird,还有12%使用PostgreSQL。
MySQL为首的开源数据库的发展态势已经引发了数据库巨头的关注和担忧。比如,IBM和甲骨文公司纷纷下调了其低端数据库产品的价格。此外,甲骨文最近也收购了芬兰仅有5人的开源数据库开发商Innobase,该公司为MySQL提供了存储引擎。此举可见甲骨文开始重视开源数据库开发商。
