Analyst highlights significantly lower demand for Apple iPhone 16 Pro than iPhone 16 Plus

The iPhone 16 Pro has seen a couple ofnoticeable upgrades over the predecessor. One of them is the new Apple A18 Pro, which has already been shown to be better than the A17 Pro in the recent Geekbench benchmarkruns.

However, it appears that Apple is seeing less demand for the iPhone 16 Pro models than expected. Ming Chi-Kuo, a reputed analyst, has made some observations over the weekend. His numbers are based on the ship times on the official website and a "supply chain survey." Kuo shared the following:

• iPhone 16 Plus has seen a whopping 48% higher demand than last year
• iPhone 16 is up by 10% compared to last year
• iPhone 16 Pro is down by 27% than last year
• iPhone 16 Pro Max dropped by 16% in demand than last year

In other words, Kuo's analysis shares that people are more interested in the non-Pro iPhone 16 models than before. Kuo also shares that Apple has sold around 37 million units of the new phones on the first weekend after launch. This is down by about 12.7% when compared to last year.

Kuo further notes that Apple has produced 6 million units of iPhone 16 Pro Max before the launch. That is 106% higher than the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year. The analyst speculates that the higher yield of the tetraprism camera is the reason behind this increased production.

With lower-than-expected pre-order numbers for the iPhone 16 line as a whole, Apple may implement aggressive strategies next year. But at the moment, it seems that the lack of significant changes is the reason why the new Pro models are not doing as great as expected. The late release of Apple Intelligencecould also be playing a part in lower demand for the new series.
