Idle Colony is the kind of game that sneaks up on you. It starts simple—just a colony tossing fruit into a big wok—but somehow, hours go by, and you’re still watching those little guys do their thing. If you’re into idle games like Gnorp Analogue, this one will feel familiar, but it definitely has its own personality.

What’s It Like to Play?

The game starts off pretty chill. You draw little paths for your colonists and they run around collecting fruit. It’s oddly satisfying to watch the fruit fly across the screen and land in the wok. That’s where the game earns you money, which you use to upgrade buildings, unlock new tools, and expand your colony.

At first, everything feels pretty simple—chop some trees, fight some moles, maybe deal with some weird weather effects—but soon the game starts opening up. There are tons of upgrades, buildings, and abilities to play around with. You can pick different “builds” or strategies to try out.

What Makes It Fun?

Honestly, it’s really just satisfying. You’re always unlocking something new or making progress. It’s not the kind of idle game where you have to wait hours to see anything happen. There’s always something to do—drawing paths, picking upgrades, or trying new combos to see what works best.

It’s also really clean and fun to look at. Watching all the fruit fly around and the little guys run back and forth is weirdly relaxing. It hits that sweet spot where you can zone out and enjoy it but still feel like you’re getting somewhere.

What are the Downsides?

If I’m being honest, the game throws a lot at you right away. You get a ton of upgrades and buildings early on and it can feel a bit overwhelming. Other idle games tend to slow things down a bit more, so this might take some getting used to.

There’s also no offline progress yet, so you have to keep the game open to move forward. If you’re someone who likes games that can run in the background while you do other stuff that might be a little disappointing (shoutout to my OSRS grinders).

Should You Buy It?

For the price of only $5.99 Idle Colony is a solid little game. It’s fun, relaxing, and has enough variety to keep you hooked for a while. Sure, it’s not perfect, but if you like idle or incremental games, you’ll probably get a kick out of this one and certianly get your monies worth.
