The sharks bear their teeth in Avowed, but not in the way you expect. Down in the Shark’s Teeth region of Shatterscarp, there will be a crucial tower that can see across the land. If there’s an invasion, they will see it, and so it’s an important structure for anyone who holds it.

Unfortunately, it has been booby-trapped by unknown assailants. Climb the massive tower to resolve the situation, be it with words or bloodshed.

Accepting the Quest

If you come in from the north, you will come across a rather large tower to your right almost immediately. If you come in from the south, you will come across a rather sketchy Aumaua. Moving towards the tower, though, you will come across an injured Aedyran who is begging for his life after receiving a grievous wound.

Whether you help him or not, he will inform you that the tower has been taken over by the Thirdborn, and they have set up various traps. It’s now the Envoy’s job to climb the tower and find out who has been booby-trapping the structure and put a stop to it.

Getting to the Top

The biggest challenge of this mission is finding your way to the top of the tower. There are three major tips we can give to help you out:

• Always watch your feet
• Never open a chest

Once you have all three of those principles down, you shouldn’t have much trouble getting up the tower, to a certain degree, at least. Even if you’re paying attention, there’s still a good chance you’ll trip a wire or step on a pressure plate at some point.

This a rather long climb, but there are many ways to get to the top. If you have an ice weapon or ice grenade, you’ll be able to get in almost immediately through the back entrance, otherwise you’ll have to maneuver your way along the cliffside in the back. The higher you go, the more dangerous the traps become.

Once you nearly reach the top of the tower, there will be a lever that can be pulled, and as the note says beside it, it will deactivate all the traps. You still have a bit of a climb, though, as there will be boxes across the room that can be jumped up and to the top of the tower after moving through the scaffolding and going up a set of stairs.

Confronting the Thirdborn

At the top of the tower, you will meet with Katoa and Haiako, two more Aumaua. They don’t take too kindly to you being there, especially being an Aedyran. If you do have Kai with you at the time, they will be slightly more open to the situation, but otherwise they are on guard throughout. There are three outcomes to this encounter:

• They Stay: If you don’t have enough Resolve, the encounter will simply go in their favor, and they will stay and hold the tower for Thirdborn.
• They Go: If you have 11 Resolve, you will be able to convince them you mean business and that anything happens to you and Thirdborn will be destroyed.
• They Fight: You can completely side with the Aedyrans and kill them. The encounter is on the top of a tower, so mind your position.

Rewards

• 6,600 XP if you fail the Resolve check
• 9,900 XP if you succeed the Resolve check
