VLC supports almost all video formats. Like Qvod, it can also be embedded in web pages for playback (the client needs to be installed).
jw supports video formats supported by html5 and flash, which can only be played on web pages.
Both of these support flash live broadcast protocol (rtmp?) and html5 live broadcast (hls?)
