Early game building in Kaiserpunk is limited, but expands rapidly as you progress through your nation's development paths, unlocking structures, resources, and units. While the development system is simpler than many strategy games, maximizing it requires a large city and strategic resource management. This guide covers everything you need to know about R&D in your post-Great War rebuilding efforts.
Development Points
Operational buildings generate Development Points. While the yield per building is small, a large city generates significant points. Buildings contribute to specific development tracks: Farms boost Agriculture, Bases boost Military, and so on. Educational buildings (Schools, Universities) contribute to all tracks.
Reaching new tiers on a development track unlocks technologies: early tiers unlock buildings and upgrades, while later tiers unlock advanced goods and powerful city bonuses.

Science Deals
Diplomacy with other nations allows for Science Deals – exchanging Development points. These deals are made on the Diplomacy screen. You trade production from one or more development tracks for another. For example, you might trade 30 Utilities Development for 30 Civics Development. This reduces your Utilities production but increases Civics production for the duration of the deal.
The exchange rate depends on your relationship: neutral nations offer one-to-one trades, friendly nations offer favorable rates, and hostile nations demand more.
Maintaining Science Deals with neutral or friendly nations fills development gaps and fuels technological advancement. Even unfavorable deals with hostile neighbors can prevent war. You can even chain deals to effectively redistribute your development points while improving relations with multiple nations.
